MacBook Pro review (2018): Apple plays catch-up

The 2018 MacBook Pro is precisely the upgrade Mac fans have been waiting for. It's faster, and fixes one of the most common keyboard issues from the last generation, that error-prone keyboard. But the upgrades come a little too late, and Apple is...

Faster than before thanks to 8th gen Intel CPUs ; Better battery life ; Refined keyboard

Still stuck with 4 USB-C ports (get your dongles ready) ; No dedicated graphics on the 13-inch model ; Touch Bar still needs work to truly replace function keys ; PC competition offers more compelling 13-inch laptop hardware

While this latest generation of the MacBook Pro might seem understated, it's a more significant upgrade than last year's, when Apple just added some aging CPUs. These new models are more powerful than ever -- though, if that's your main concern, you...

Apple MacBook Pro 13-Inch (2018, Touch Bar)

A pricey but superior tool for creative pros, 2018's Touch Bar version of the 13-inch MacBook Pro brings four-core moxie to Apple's handsome ultraportable, with options for cavernous local storage.

Excellent touchpad. Gorgeous display. Titanic-capacity SSD in test model. Improved keyboard comfort. Full-disk encryption. "Hey Siri" functionality.

No option for discrete graphics. Using ports will require adapters or dongles, in most cases. Expensive as configured.

Bottom Line: A pricey but superior tool for creative pros, 2018's Touch Bar version of the 13-inch MacBook Pro brings four-core moxie to Apple's handsome ultraportable, with options for cavernous local storage.

Everything new under the hood in the 13-inch Apple MacBook Pro

This minor refresh features an eighth-gen Intel processor, more RAM and storage for the same price.

Apple MacBook Pro 13-inch (Without Touch Bar)

Not as fast as 7th-gen Intel-powered laptops; No SD card slot ; The new MacBook Pro is an excellent ultraportable with a brighter display, more compact design, and superb battery life, but it's not the fastest.

The new MacBook Pro is an excellent ultraportable with a brighter display, more compact design, and superb battery life, but it's not the fastest.

Apple MacBook Pro 13in with Touch Bar (2018) review

It looks like a copy and paste of last year's Pro, but this notebook is packed with new tech

More powerful innards ; Keyboard is quieter ; True Tone display is great ; Really nippy SSD

Expensive ; Touch Bar lacks support ; Non-Touch Bar model not (yet?) updated

A strong update to Apple’s 13-inch flagship notebook, not least if you look beyond the surface

MacBook Pro with Touch Bar (13-inch, mid-2018) review

A solid improvement

Incredibly quick SSD ; True Tone for non-visual creativity ; Reasonable CPU and GPU boosts ; Quad-core processors with Hyper-Threading

Battery life ; Price is close to two grand

The MacBook Pro with Touch Bar (13-inch, Mid-2018) is a welcome, but mostly straightforward, improvement to a capable laptop.

Apple MacBook Pro 13 2018 (Touch Bar, i5) Laptop Review

Live-Review: Now with four (slowed down) cores. Apple updates the MacBook Pro 13 with a new quad-core processor and a True Tone display for 2018, but only the more expensive model with the Touch Bar. We have a closer look at the performance of the new...

The support for the TrueTone feature is certainly a nice addition, but the most important component of the 2018 MBP 13 update is the new quad-core processor. The results after our initial benchmarks are, however, sobering and fall short of our...

MacBook Pro (13-inch, 2018) and Blackmagic eGPU review

We need the software to catch up, but this pairing might just be that perfect balance of power and portability which creative pros have wanted for ever.

Delivers portability and power ; Fast and capable

Apps likely need to be tweaked to be able to access the eGPU’s power ; A significant investment

As it stands, it may be that the apps you depend on can’t access the eGPU’s power, but the potential here is huge, and at a purely hardware level, this is a wonderfully capable, flexible set-up.

Apple MacBook Pro (13-inch, 2018) review: Quad-core CPU and all-day battery life Review | ZDNet

The 2018 13-inch MacBook Pro delivers strong CPU performance and good battery life, which help to justify its premium price tag. We'd still like to see a discrete GPU option though.

Slimline, lightweight design ; All-day battery life ; Quad-core Coffee Lake Intel Core processor ; Attractive Retina display with True Tone technology

Expensive ; No discrete GPU ; No user upgrades
