Apple Watch Series 2

Apple Watch 2 review: Apple's second attempt at a wearable fixes many of the problems of the original, making it a great smartwatch and fitness tracker.

Bright, beautiful screen ; Great fitness tracking ; GPS makes it more versatile ; Solid battery life ; Snappy performance

Expensive ; Looks the same as previous version

The Apple Watch 2 might not look any different, but the refinements that Apple has made are all spot on. If you want a smartwatch that doubles as a solid fitness tracker then this is a fantastic option.

The bottom line: Our quick verdict on the Apple Watch Series 2

The Series 2 is the best smartwatch you can buy, but it's not the best sports watch. Even with the waterproofing and built-in GPS, it's best if you think of this as a fitness tracker -- albeit, a very stylish, feature-rich fitness tracker. The pace...

Faster performance and longer battery life than before ; watchOS 3 feels much more intuitive ; Waterproof design means you can take it swimming ; Built-in GPS is good for walkers, hikers and casual joggers ; Screen is more than twice as bright ; Works...

Average pace calculations in workouts are often off the mark ; Distance tracking in running falters if you stop to walk ; Activity app is missing features you'll find in other fitness apps ; More watch faces, please ; The Series 1 watch offers many of...

Apple Watch Nike+ review: a new and effective take on running watches

World's two most recognisable brands combine for a triumph of branding… and a very decent, social-driven running watch

Exceptional strap design ; Fast GPS pick-up ; Nike + app and watch faces ; Excellent social elements

Slow to sync to iPhone ; Heart rate data not fully integrated ; Lacks the in-depth analysis of dedicated watches

Apple Watch Series 2

The Apple Watch Series 2 brings advanced fitness-tracking features that make it more useful than many of the other smartwatches we've reviewed. But it's still a considerable investment for a device you don't really need.

Built-in GPS. Waterproof to 164 feet. Brighter screen and faster performance than original Apple Watch. Accurate fitness tracking. Plenty of third-party apps.

Expensive. Battery life has not improved from predecessor. Lacks integrated sleep tracking and continuous heart rate monitoring when not working out.

The Apple Watch Series 2 is the best smartwatch-fitness tracker hybrid we've seen, and better than the original watch thanks to a brighter screen, faster performance, and a waterproof design.

Apple Watch Nike+ Edition review: A smartwatch for Nike lovers

With Nike's Run Club app built in, the Nike+ Edition also includes a more breathable strap and two exclusive Nike watch faces.

A bright display, onboard GPS and waterproof to 50 meters. Integration with Nike+ Run Club. Comfortable strap and comes with two exclusive Nike watch faces.

GPS battery life is short. No altimeter for measuring elevation. Workout data can't be exported to other services. Lacks always-on display.

If you're a loyal Nike user, this is the Apple Watch to get, but it's really just an Apple Watch Series 2 with a few minor changes. There are cheaper alternatives for pure fitness and run tracking.

Apple Watch Nike+

The Apple Watch Nike+ boasts sporty styling and some exclusive features that make it a solid alternative to Apple's Series 2 smartwatch, especially for runners.

Ventilated watchband. Exclusive Nike watch faces and features. Lots of third-party apps.

Expensive. Inaccurate pace measurements in testing. No heart rate zones. Lacks continuous heart rate monitoring when not working out.

The Apple Watch Nike+ isn't all that different from the Apple Watch Series 2. And that's not a bad thing. Both watches offer fast performance, sharp displays, and a fantastic selection of third-party apps. The Nike+ just offers some exclusive Nike...

Apple Watch Series 2 review: work it out

Let's call it what it is: a fitness tracker. The Apple Watch Series 2 is exactly that. It's what Apple had resisted calling its wearable for the past year and a half, even declining to categorize...

Built-in GPS ; Water resistant up to 50m ; Faster performance ; Bigger battery

Limited to iPhone users ; Display not visible in direct sunlight ; Still has some software glitches

Apple Watch, the re-review: One year after its launch, is it worth buying?

At 1-year-old and newly discounted, the Apple Watch is a study in contradictions; it's the best overall smartwatch out there, but not something you should feel compelled to buy.

Beautifully constructed. Handles messages well. A solid fitness tracker. Hundreds of apps. Can send and receive voice calls via an iPhone. Lots of design choices. Apple Pay-enabled. Stores music for local playback over Bluetooth.

Battery only lasts a little more than a day. Most models and configurations cost more than they should. Requires an iPhone to work. Interface can be confusing. Many apps load slowly. Lacks built-in GPS.

A year old and even more affordable, the Apple Watch remains the best designed and most capable smartwatch you can buy -- but we're hoping that the inevitable sequel makes it more of a must-have product.
