Samsung Gear 360

Samsung has overhauled its Gear 360 camera for 2017, adding some useful features, reducing the bulk and adding iPhone compatibility.

The Samsung Gear 360 (2017) makes it easy to get started in 360-degree content.

Samsung Gear 360 review

Samsung's Gear 360 is the best 360 cam for Galaxy owners.

If you find VR exciting and you happen to own (or are looking to buy) the S7/S7 Edge and Gear VR headset, you may want to consider owning the Gear 360 camera as well. Not only will you have the means to experience immersive 360-degree content provided...

Samsung Gear 360 (2017)

Samsung's second version of the Gear 360 improves on the original, delivering better video and a more refined user experience.

Improved 4K video capture. Smaller and lighter than previous version. Supports live streams. Compatible with iOS and macOS. Affordable.

Not submersible. 4K footage limited to 24p frame rate. 4K files are huge. Android support limited to Samsung handsets. Live streaming not supported on all platforms. Non-removable battery.

The new Gear 360 is a solid, affordable piece of hardware. It's priced at $229, but has been selling for less for some time now, enhancing its value. We'd love to see it work with Android devices outside of the Samsung brand, but improved iOS support...

Samsung Gear 360 (2017) review

It's cheaper, faster, and easier — but the big questions about 360-degree cameras remain

Faster and easier to use ; Crisp photos and improved video quality ; Better ergonomics

4K videos aren’t very fluid ; Limited resolutions and frame rates ; Still feels like a solution in search of a problem

We’re still very much in the trial and error phase with spherical video and photos. There are major platforms that support the format, like YouTube and Facebook, and there have been some really compelling stories told in 360-degrees by journalism...

Samsung may have fixed all that was bad about its 360 camera

No longer a big eyeball, the shrunken 360-degree camera has a better design, improved video and more phone support -- including iPhone.

Samsung Gear 360 (2017) review

Is this the best way to get a properly rounded view of the world?

Fits in your pocket ; Decent footage and photos ; Easy to use

Limited Android support ; 4K footage doesn’t look 4K ; No built-in tripod

A step forward for 360-degree cameras, but still a step below perfection

Samsung Gear 360 (2017) hands-on review

The second gen 360 degree-seeing eye is a focused all-rounder

Samsung Gear 360 (2017) review

This second-gen 360-degree camera is a very small step forward

Fun, capable software ; Good price ; Works with iOS ; Slick, ergonomic design

Disappointing video quality ; Slight downgrade in specs over 2016 model ; Limited Android compatibility

The 2017 edition of Samsung’s Gear 360 is easy and fun to use, especially if you haven’t dipped into 360-degree video before. At $229, it’s definitely one of the best values on the market, too. But be warned, the video quality can be iffy, and opting...

Samsung Gear 360 (2017) review: Samsung’s new and improved pocket-sized 360 camera is a must-have

Samsung's Gear 360 camera gets a handy redesign as well as some must-have feature upgrades

Incredibly well-priced ; New, improved design ; Compatible with more devices

Non-removable battery

The price, however, is the thing that swings it for me. This year’s Samsung Gear 360 is in shops now at a mere £219, undercutting that old and not-as-good Gear 360 by £130. The choice is obvious, take the leap, and while you’re at it film yourself...
