Sony KD-55AG9 review

An OLED TV that masters on authenticity

Fantastic colours and motion ; Impressive audio ; Lovely design

HDR is missing some punch ; Occasionally distracting processing ; Pricier than most rivals

The AG9 delivers on its promise of authenticity, but a couple of picture niggles hold it back from dream TV status

Sony Master Series XBR-65A9G

Sony's pricey Master Series A9G line of OLED TVs offer perfect contrast, vivid color, and Android TV with hands-free Google Assistant commands.

Excellent picture with perfect black levels and strong contrast. Clear stereo audio. Hands-free Google Assistant. Attractive design.

Expensive. Colors are less than ideal out of the box.

Bottom Line: Sony's pricey Master Series A9G line of OLED TVs offer perfect contrast, vivid color, and Android TV with hands-free Google Assistant commands.

Sony AG9 4K OLED TV review: An OLED master

With a better design than its predecessor and masterful handling of motion of upscaling of standard-def content, the top-end Sony is a killer 4K set.

Superb upscaling ; Excellent HDR near-black performance ; Unfeasibly good invisible sound system ; Beautiful design

No HDR10+ support ; No Freeview Play ; Undeniably expensive

Combining best-in-class upscaling, with a superb 4K HDR performance and innovative Acoustic Surface Audio+ sound system, the Sony AG9 is a masterful OLED flagship - if you can afford one then you won’t feel short-changed.

Sony AG9 OLED initial review: Picture perfection?

The Master Series is Sony's top-end 4K OLED TV (available in 77, 65 and 55-inch sizes), enhancing performance over 2018's AF8 with a new processor.

Sony A9G / AG9 Master Series OLED review

The Sony A9G/AG9 Master Series OLED is the new flagship of Sony’s TV fleet. It embraces a characteristically minimalist design that disguises a host of cutting-edge features like Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos support, plus Netflix Calibrated Mode...

Luscious 4K HDR images Best-in-class upscaling Acoustic Surface+ audio

No support for HDR10+ No Freeview Play Undeniably expensive

The Sony A9G/AG9 is worthy of any AV lover's entertainment center thanks to its best-in-class upscaling, 4K picture processing and respectable gaming performance. But the lack of HDR10+ support will make enthusiasts wary.

Sony Bravia AG9 review (KD-55AG9 KD-65AG9 KD-77AG9): This near-perfect OLED TV is now over £1,000 less

This 2019 sequel to our top TV of 2018 is spectacular – and spectacularly expensive

Class-leading upscaling and motion processing ; Perfect OLED blacks and wide viewing angles ; One of the best-sounding TVs on the market

Dolby Vision darker than rivals ; No VRR and ALLM support for gamers ; Bright HDR scenes not as impactful as top-end LED LCDs

The Sony AG9 produces by and large the same excellent picture quality as the AF9 – in fact, it’s so similar that we’d say the premium remote control is the biggest upgrade here. That’s no insult however: there was precious little room for improvement....

Fantastic picture quality for 4K, 1080p, HDR and SDR content ; Clean and smooth UI ; Functional and well-built remote control ; eARC support

Sits flush with the tabletop, which may make it inconvenient for some home entertainment setups

The Sony A9G is a fantastic premium OLED TV and a worthy consideration for those looking for a premium OLED TV. It has a bright rich display for consuming content and gaming. The UI is fluid, features are plentiful and audio is acceptable for TV viewing.

Review: In bed with the Sony A9G Master Series OLED – 65-inches of pure pleasure

What better place to review a Sony A9G Master Series OLED king-size TV than in a king-size bed replete with snacks in a cloistered suite at the iconic Old

4K HDR OLED picture quality with the right content – say no more;Sound – adequate for a 2.2 system – no thumping bass;Android TV has matured and is very stable with Voice Assistance; All standards – Dolby Vision (Dolby Atmos to come), HDR/10, HLG and...

Sits flush to the desk – no room for a soundbar;Reflectivity is still an issue albeit improved over teh A9F;Xbox gamers look elsewhere;2.2 Channel Audio means buy a soundbar
