Sony Xperia XZ2 review: Old issues | Trusted Reviews

Sony Xperia XZ2 review: A good, not great phone that could do with a few more killer features. Can Sony compete with Samsung and Apple?

Pretty design ; Solid performance ; Powerful speakers

Camera not as good as rivals ; Lots of duplicate apps

Sony Xperia XZ2 review: Memorable looks, forgettable features

Sony's Xperia XZ2 has an elegant all-glass design and delivers outstanding performance. None of its unique features are very exciting, however, and with the Galaxy S9 being an attractive alternative, it's not a must-buy.

Glossy all-glass design ; Perfect performance ; Proficient but simple camera

Display can eat battery life ; Inconsequential unique features ; Awkward fingerprint reader placement ; The Galaxy S9 exists

The Xperia XZ2 has a number of desirable characteristics, but it's far from perfect. All that glass looks and feels beautiful, even if the fingerprint reader placement is a little off. The main camera takes pictures rich in detail and color. The HDR...

Sony Xperia XZ2 and XZ2 Compact hands-on review

Unlike many of its big-brand competitors, Sony didn't shy away from major announcements at MWC 2018. In fact, it took the wrappers of a shiny new pair of flagships, that boldly marry new design concepts with incremental hardware updates.

Sony Xperia XZ2 and XZ2 Compact hands-on review

Sony packs a lot of impressive tech into the Xperia XZ2 that makes it a promising competitor to the Galaxy S9.

Good performance, specs ; Solid, refreshed design ; Super-slow-motion in 1080p is unique ; Loud speakers ; Colorful display

Sony user interface feels cluttered ; Volume rocker is too high ; Dynamic Vibration System goal of immersion is unconvincing

Sony's latest flagship is great but not too great

The Xperia XZ2 is a good phone with a great camera, but there are better options out there.

The Sony Xperia XZ2's curved design makes it comfortable to hold, and its powerful speakers and cool vibration feature make games and videos feel larger than life. Being able to shoot 960fps slow motion in full HD is useful in the right moments. The...

The Xperia XZ2 has a dated look, despite Sony's redesign. Software features, such as 3D face scanning, aren't very useful. The placement of the fingerprint sensor makes it too easy to press the camera lens instead.

The Sony Xperia XZ2 is a solid phone, but we prefer the Huawei P20 Pro or the Samsung Galaxy S9.

Sony Xperia XZ2

If you want to watch and record HDR video, the attractive Sony Xperia XZ2 might be just the phone for you.

Sleek design. HDR display. Fast Snapdragon 845 processor. Sharp camera with unique 3D scanning feature and 4K HDR recording.

Relatively low screen resolution. No headphone jack.

Sony gets a lot right with the Xperia XZ2. The design feels sleek and modern, it has solid multimedia capabilities, and it's no slouch in the power department. If you're drawn to its unique features like 4K HDR video recording, 3D scanning, and dynamic...

Sony Xperia XZ2 review

An Android comeback story with a sort of happy ending

Much-improved design ; 4K HDR video ; Powerful performance

Camera still not as good as the competition ; No headphone jack

Sony’s best handset yet offers plenty, but despite big strides forward, its competitors have still made bigger

Sony Xperia XZ2 Smartphone Review

Everything in HDR. HDR is the key term for Sony's new high-end smartphone Xperia XZ2: The display supports HDR 10 and is able to upscale content to HDR, while the camera can record videos in HDR. Can this be seen as a real innovation? Have they done...

blazing fast smartphone ; 60-fps gaming is possible ; bright display with vibrant colors ; main camera with numerous features... ; ...and really good image quality ; 3D scans are possible ; case protected according to IP68 ; very exact touch input ;...

some bloatware apps ; prone to fingerprints ; fingerprint sensor can't be felt easily ; earpiece booms for loud voices ; moderate speaker quality ; relatively slow access to microSD ; situationally high power consumption ; relatively broad bezels ; no...

Oh, Sony... we want to praise your smartphones just because they are daring and you know how to present them well. But then we remember that you overlooked the trend for bezel-less smartphones and that you are now releasing a new phone that entirely...

Sony Xperia XZ2 review: Can Sony's latest flagship sink the Galaxy S9?

Sony's Xperia XZ2 brings 4K, HDR video recording to smartphones, but is this the new flagship to beat?

Excellent new design ; Superb performance ; Long-lasting battery life

Framerate issues with 4K HDR recording

That’s a shame. Not only was I impressed at the phone’s MWC launch, but at £699 the XZ2 was shaping up to be a well-priced choice. As it stands, Sony’s latest flagship doesn’t do quite enough to justify buying over Samsung’s Galaxy S9.
